@TheSneakerSavant and I have been cooking up some crazy sole swap hybrids over the last couple of years and 2024 was no exception. He has some absolutely insane ideas that I would never have thought of and sometimes, when he tells me what’s on his mind, I don’t even know if they’ll work. This was one of those cases when I first heard what he had up his sleeve, I just didn’t see how it could possibly work. Once we mocked up some pictures, it looked like it could be possible, but we didn’t know if it would actually come to fruition.

His idea was simple in theory: take the Air Jordan 1 X Union “Bephies Beauty Supply Summer of ’96” and throw a Nike Footscape sole on the bottom to really bring out the true vibe of the Nike Woven Footscape that the AJ1 took inspiration from. But, there was a problem: The AJ1 uses a cup style sole and the foolscap is FAR from a traditional cup sole. In order to make this happen, there were going to be some CRAZY modifications to both the uppers and the soles to get the components to correctly attach and match up with one another… or so I thought…

As it turns out, the pieces actually fit together pretty damn well! This project really brought out the original vibe of the Footscape Woven and in my opinion, is what Nike/Jordan/Union SHOULD have done when they released this Jordan 1. The project was definitely a challenging one, but turned out pretty nicely at the end of the day if I do say so myself.
