"China has issued a stark warning to the Philippines over the potential deployment of the U.S.-made Typhon missile system, claiming it could escalate conflict risks in the South China Sea. Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro has confirmed that Manila is considering acquiring the missile system to strengthen territorial defense.

The Typhon system, capable of launching Tomahawk cruise missiles and Standard Missile 6 interceptors, was demonstrated in April during joint U.S.-Philippine drills in northern Luzon. While initially planned for removal, the missile system now remains indefinitely, drawing sharp criticism from Beijing. China’s Defense Ministry has condemned the deployment, demanding its immediate withdrawal and threatening 'resolute countermeasures' if the plan moves forward.
