To illustrate this point, a parable is told of a person who is thrown into the water and is rescued by a lifeline. The rescuer warns the person to hold onto the rope, as it is the only thing keeping them alive. Similarly, God warns the Israelites that His commandments are essential for their spiritual survival, and they must hold onto them tightly.
