The Major issue is the o- rings blowing and releasing Air From the Pack at a rapid Rate.
In these tests no-one was breathing on the bottles as the timer was running. A very optimistic time estimate would be 3-5 minutes before the bottle is out of air. Everyone will breath at different rates and will have different stress reactions as the air leaks from their bottle in fire conditions. This makes estimating the actual time until empty difficult. One minute into the test the full bottle was reduced to around 2200psi with no firefighter breathing on the cylinder.

Thats easy to remember. In one minute you have lost more than half your air.

The other giant issue that works against us is that the fire ground is very loud and you may not recognize a spontaneous air leak. If it is not noticed early, the time to take action is again, greatly reduced.

EBSS is a good option. But your partner’s good bottle will still leak through the cylinder with the blown o-ring. It does appear that this happens slowly. There are other work arounds.

The final clip is a puncture of an EBSS. It leaked depending on the position it was in. If this happens to you you could possibly fold or tie the line to stop the leak. Its probably a good thing to check at the beginning of your shift. This one was discovered when it got used in a drill.

Also discussed during this clip was a time that A RIC UAC was attempted , but did not equalize bottles. It was taken to the shop and it was determined that the one way valve in the assembly can fail shut. This was the case with that pack and we were unable to charge it with the UAC. The EBSS will still work in this case. The RIC UAC is harder to test for function on a regular basis.
