Bon Voyage! RPCV Group Send Off Events.

On May 30 at 4 p.m. Eastern, NPCA and Peace Corps staff gave a presentation about how to best connect RPCV affiliate groups with Peace Corps invitees. As more and more Volunteers head back to the field, how can affiliates support the invitees and plant seeds for the next generation of affiliate members and leadership? Watch this discussion to hear examples of how RPCV affiliate groups can engage with invitees, currently serving PCVs, and those considering what comes next after service!

Kate Raftery currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Peace Corps. Previous to this, Kate was the Country Director for Peace Corps Paraguay from October 2016 through October 2018. Kate served as the Director of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). NCCC engages 2,800 young people 18-24 years of age in a 10-month national service experience. In that role, Kate led the AmeriCorps effort to launch the NCCC FEMA Corps. In addition to her current position, Kate has held the position of Country Director in Honduras, Peru, and the Eastern Caribbean as well as Deputy for Programming and Training in Paraguay. Kate began her journey with Peace Corps as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay in the early ‘70s.

With more than 25 years of experience working in the volunteer, grassroots development, and anti-poverty space, Eileen Conoboy has applied her passion for social justice and community mobilization in a range of fields. Eileen served as Deputy Director and Acting Director of AmeriCorps VISTA and has held multiple leadership roles at the Peace Corps, including Director of University Programs and Director of Third Goal and Returned Volunteer Services. She currently works as Peace Corps’ Recruitment Advisor, developing new strategies to diversify and increase international engagement through Peace Corps service. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from West Virginia University and a Master of Philosophy in International Peace Studies from Trinity College, Dublin.
