In this video I restored an old 'Lincoln' Grease Press from St. Louis. I purchased this Grease Press online, when it arrived i noticed a well used condition. The bolts/screws were worn and not original. At first I thought it works but is empty, while disassembling I noticed that there were still grease in the press left.
While the outside was worn, the internal parts were looking pretty good - since the grease protected them from rust.
After disassembling a good acetone wash was necessesary. All the grease was gone, so I could focus on restoring the coated and plated parts. With sandblasting I removed every old coating and plating. On 2 parts there was a heavy chrome plating, which was pretty resistant, even against hydrochloric acid. I used the acid to loosen the plating and sandblasting it off later.
The new color was RAL 7040, I matched the color with a part that wasnt totally worn. A new powdercoating makes the press look new.
After nickelplating the plated parts and reassembling the whole piece, the press works perfectly fine again!

I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
