Azhangu Deivam is a Kavadi Chindu. Kavadi Chindu is a Tamil folk song, The word ‘Chindu’ originally referred to a couplet or poem in Tamil set to a particular meter. Kavadi Chindu is sung by devotees as they carry the ‘kavadi’ for Lord Muruga, typically up a hill, to ease out some of the strain and physical exhaustion resulting from the journey. This song is usually danced with a touch of folk element in the song. Azhagu Deivam aaga vandhu is a composition of Tamil poet Periasamy Thooran.
