Dr Oz is a quintessential icon of daytime TV lifestyle and self help advice. He has advertised everything from low carbohydrate, high exercise diets to the use of various berries to lose weight. For some one who started life as a cardiothoracic surgeon he has fallen so far as to appear before congress regarding his behavior.

Dr Oz began his career as a medical staffer. He was a surgeon. Apparently not a bad one. This eventually led to his moment of fame on the Oprah Show. From here his TV persona grew. It led to his own day time TV show known as the Dr Oz Show. This show has been airing since 2009.

Those 11 years have seen Dr oz advertise everything possibly health related. If you thought Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP was bad than it has nothing on Dr Oz. He has said your astrological sign has an impact on your personality. He has claimed taht a cure to all weight loss is in a bottle or pill.

These and other wild claims have led to Dr Oz being called before a congressional committee to defend his advertisements. What is odd in his testimony is that he backtracks on this hyperbolic language. He says it is flowery words to appeal to his audience. An audience he admits is desperate for anything that might help them.
