Beautiful Pashto Rabab | Muhammad Arif Rababist

Recorded in 2023 in Quetta, Quetta's famous Rabab player, Muhammad Arif Rababist, also related to the renowned Pakistani Rababi Ustad Sultan Mohammad Chanae, plays a beautiful Pashto melody on rabab. Soothing and calm, rabab has been used in this region for centuries and beyond to represent the culture and folklore of this region.

The Pashtun, ethnically natives of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in modern-day Pakistan and the majority in Afghanistan, cover a vast area in both the countries and their language and culture varies from even village to village at times. This rhythm is used in the Pashtun ethnic dance of Attanh, which varies tribe-to-tribe and even within tribes when it comes to steps and spins. From Quetta till Waziristan and beyond, the Pashtun perform attanh on weddings and other celebrations.
