MSHR performance in Oita Japan - at live music club “ATHALL” hellscroll5

昨年大分市”ATHALL”で開催されたライブイベント【HELL SCROLL 5】に出演のアートコレクティブ【MSHR】のパフォーマンスの様子を撮影させていただきました。

回路に繋がれた、音に応じて玉虫色に光る手作りの装置。自然の中にもあるようなフィードバックの連鎖でできたパフォーマンスに観客は没入していきます。最後には生身の人間の手を合わせることでノイズが鳴る展開に。
もしかしたら未来あるかもしれない愛とコミュニケーションの形なのかも。と思いながら撮影していました。そしてニューヨークやポートランドの音楽・アートシーンはどんなだろうと思いを馳せます。

I had the pleasure of filming the performance of the art collective “MSHR” at the live event “HELL SCROLL 5” held at ATHALL in Oita City last year.
Some handmade devices connected to a circuit that glows iridescent light according to the sound. The audience was immersed in this performance made up of a chain of feedback that could be found in nature. Finally, the noise was developed by the joining of live human hands.
Perhaps it suggests a form of love and communication that may exist in the future. I was filming with this thoughts in mind. I also wondered what the music and art scenes in New York and Portland would be like.

Birch CooperとBrenna MurphyからなるMSHRは、ニューヨークを拠点に活動を行うアートコレクティブである。自作のシンセサイザーを用いた音響作品やパフォーマンス、コンピューターグラフィクスに基づく彫刻や映像作品、VRを取り入れたインスタレーションなど、多岐にわたる分野を横断しながら、そのアーティスト名が意味するように、ビジュアルとサウンド、アナログとデジタル、リアルとヴァーチャルといった、異なるコンポーネント同士を複合的に“Mesh”（結合）させ、ハイパーディメンジョナルな空間芸術を作り出していく。一見過剰なまでに放出される色彩とサウンドは崩壊に陥ることなく、自然界のエコロジーにも似た有機的なフィードバックシステムのもとで、複雑で鮮やかなフタクタル構造を形成していく。またBrennaはVisible Cloaksの一連の作品のビジュアル、Maxwell August Croyのプロジェクト、Kagamiのアートワーク、本サイトのMASSAGE10号の表紙デザイン、最近ではティモシー・モートン著『Hyperobjects』のイタリア語翻訳版の装丁を担当するなど、グラフィックデザインの仕事でもその名が知られている。(massage magasine ウェブサイトより　https://themassage.jp/archives/11106)

MSHR,
consisting of Birch Cooper and Brenna Murphy, is an art collective based in New York City. As the artist's name implies, they combine different components such as visual and sound, analog and digital, real and virtual, while crossing a wide range of fields, including sound works and performances using their own synthesizers, sculptures and video works based on computer graphics, and installations that incorporate VR. As the artist's name implies, he creates hyperdimensional spatial art by combining different components, such as visual and sound, analog and digital, real and virtual, in a complex "mesh" (combination). The seemingly excessive release of color and sound does not collapse, but instead forms a complex and vivid futural structure under an organic feedback system that resembles the ecology of the natural world.
