Padhant 2 0 The Lucknow Kathak Project Ft Durga Arya

The Lucknow Kathak Project showcases the Kathak legacy of legendary kathak maestro Pt Birju Maharaj. This Kathak dance has been performed to a unique Padhant piece recreated based on the iconic piece Padhant released in 1980s by Pandit Birju Maharaj. The original piece featured supporting Padhant Pandit Jaikishan Maharaj, Saswati Sen and Durga Arya. The Padhant highlights the beauty of rhythmic 'bols' that are featured in Kathak.

In The Lucknow Kathak Project in collaboration with Durga Arya, the original piece is recreated by her along with Indian Raga Fellows Sunil Sunkara and Anirudh Sharma. An original soundtrack was created by Utkarsh Srivastava featuring the Guitar to create the traditional Kathak Lehera for the first time for this unique new age yet traditional Kathak piece. The dance, choreographed by Durga Arya as traditional Lucknow Gharana Kathak, begins with an exploration of footwork, followed by three ‘parans’, compositions that use Bols from the Pakhawaj, featuring graceful yet strong movements and spins.

This Kathak production is a collaboration between Pandit Birju Maharaj’s prime disciple Durga Arya and IndianRaga fellows Sunil Sunkara and Eshani Sathe, with Anirudh Sharma on the Pakhawaj.
