Heywood grew from an 18th-century village to become a thriving cotton town during the 19th century, but the collapse of the cotton industry sent the town into a decline it is still recovering from. These photos show some of the mill workers and and shopkeepers and farmers of the town. Music is by Edward Elgar, "Variations (Enigma), variation IX 'Nimrod'"
