Jon Warner from Trade Press Media Group ( https://www.tradepress.com ) talks to Markzware at PRINT 09 in Chicago. He tells about how he uses FlightCheck Professional and Adobe Acrobat to preflight his files. He uses FlightCheck regularly, for its ease-of-use and support of numerous file formats, including InDesign, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, PDF, and more.

Doug Rosen: We're here with Jon Warner from Trade Press Media Group and we're talking about preflighting PDF files. So, Jon, we were talking about what you guys use and how you use it.

Jon Warner: Well, we're using the FlightCheck, because we can drag, like, InDesign files, actually, we have Adobe Acrobat, PDFs, and whatever, Quark files, or anything, right into the icon and it does the FlightCheck right away. That saves you a lot of steps, so, that, actually, opening up in InDesign, or in Adobe Acrobat, which has nice features, because it shows the densities and stuff, but you can save a lot of steps just by dragging it into preflight, right away.

David Dilling: So, you're using both? You're preflighting...

Jon: Acrobat Pro. If we find a problem, because... we use the FlightCheck first, because it's just a lot quicker, because you can just drag the icon right up to the icon and it does the whole preflight for you. Then, if we have... there's... If we think there's a problem, then we open it up in Acrobat Pro and we could check the ad size, or, if we're checking ads and other closer items, then.

David: Right. Cool. And maybe... Yeah, sorry. Doug had an iPod here, so I'll just... What does your company do, in general? Like, what's your...

Jon: We're a mainstream publishing company.

David: Yeah. Okay. You deal with all types of file formats?

Jon: We're doing all of... yeah, and we're... we do multi-media, too, now. We've got internet and we have expos that we're getting into, too, so...
