Neewer, Metabones, Sony: Auto Focus Adapter Test for A7RII (Nikon, Canon, Minolta lenses)

Описание к видео Neewer, Metabones, Sony: Auto Focus Adapter Test for A7RII (Nikon, Canon, Minolta lenses)

I did not find much info about the Neewer Nikon-Sony adapter and how it performs on a Sony A7RII. While testing that with my Nikon lenses, I also tested Metabones EF-E and Sony’s own LA-EA4 adapter. I just want to share my experiences.Sorry for the shaky table!

I suggest finding these adapters and lenses used on Ebay, KEH, MPB, or Goodwill. I put direct affiliate links from Amazon in case you want to purchase them quickly.

Neewer Nikon F-Sony E Adapter v0.3 (https://amzn.to/3geB45d)

Tested Lenses (these are APS-C lenses, so some vignetting occur):

Nikon AF-S 18-55mm: Slow, but works
Nikon AF-S 12-24mm: Works fine (https://amzn.to/2RYPi1Q)
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8: Step hunting but works (https://amzn.to/2ReOHJ6)
Tamron 90mm Macro: Weird behaviour, rattling noise until battery is removed

Metabones Canon EF-Sony E Adapter MkIV (Now selling MkV: https://amzn.to/3c2Lxzh)

Tested Lenses (these are APS-C lenses, so some vignetting occur):

Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS: Works fine
Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS: Works fine (https://amzn.to/3c8MeH9)

Sony Minolta A-Sony E Adapter (LA-EA4) (https://amzn.to/3fVAKrS)
Unlike the others above this is a motorized adapter, so you can use screw drive minolta lenses.

Tested Lenses (these are full frame lenses):

Minolta 50mm f/1.7: Works fine
Minolta 100mm Macro: Works fine (https://amzn.to/2SFB8me)
Phoenix 100-400mm: Works OK, it forces focus to move further than the limit when hunting
Kenko 2x AF teleconverter: Works fine, aperture is focal length is reported correctly

Conclusion:

Sony LA-EA4 performs the best as expected. I think there are good affordable Minolta lenses around that can easily be used with this adapter. None of the lenses disappointed me. The only downside is that you are stuck with the adapter's limited focus points. For detailed info on Sony's official adapters I suggest watching Gary Friedman's videos (   • The Sony A-mount to E-mount LA-EA Ada...  )

Metabones is pretty impressive. It opens up a whole new mount of opportunities. Since Canon lenses mostly have built-in motors, you can use your camera’s focusing system (unlike the LA-EA4). Image stabilization on the lens works too. Canon lenses I got from thrift stores performed great.

I always heard disappointments about adapting Nikon F lenses to Sony, and that's sad as I have Nikon glasses from my older camera. Neewer wasn’t as good as Metabones experience, but it was surprisingly usable if you are not after action shots. Just make sure to stick with the listed compatible lenses. I heard some people damaged their cameras with some of the older versions of these adapters with 105mm lens.
