On Test: TEMO-450 portable electric powered outboard

Описание к видео On Test: TEMO-450 portable electric powered outboard

The TEMO-450 is a portable electric powered outboard, which differs substantially from other outboards on the market.

It is an extendable pole, rather than the traditional shape of engine housing at the top, or battery in an electric outboard, and then the gearing and propeller directly below.

It weighs in at a remarkable 4.9kg, is comparable to a two horse-power petrol outboard, has a run time of 60 to 80 minutes and charges in 3 hours from empty to full.

It is mounted on the transom via a simple pin on either a fixed or removable rowlock fitting. This means it is suitable for many different types of dinghy. In this test we fitted it to my Keyhaven Scow with no issues using the removable fitting, but I would fit the fixed rowlock if using regularly as it so simple and unobtrusive.

The extendable tiller means it’s easy to control, as you can move forwards in the boat to get better for and aft trim. Speed is controlled by pressure on the throttle, and reverse is engaged with a button press.

The TEMO-450 is almost silent, and powers you along nicely in a dinghy such as the Scow.

It is IP67 waterproof rated, and with the buoyancy float collar it is currently the only outboard on the market which floats.

The transport bag makes it easy to carry around and store on board. The Scow is by no means a big dinghy, but it easily fitted under the foredeck. This portability means that it’s no hassle to take home at the end of the day, put in the boot of your car, or sling over your shoulder walking.

With the propeller protector it was very easy to come ashore on the slipway without worrying about damaging the propeller.

Overall, the TEMO 450 is an incredibly simple and easy way of powering your dinghy on days that you want to get out and about on the water without sails, or for use with a tender to your yacht, in a package that is comparable in size to a single oar.
