What Is Damping?

Описание к видео What Is Damping?

Damping Explained is a video series that breaks down the ins and outs of structural motion control systems in the built environment. When a structure is subjected to external forces — wind, pedestrian movement or seismic activity, for example — it vibrates or sways. In tall buildings and on large bridges, such movement can make people uncomfortable. In other structures, it can accelerate material fatigue or other failures. Damping is one way to reduce this motion.

In this video, Trevor Haskett, Senior Technical Director at Motioneering, explains what dampers are and how they reduce structural motion. Skyscrapers and other tall buildings, bridges, and other structures can all benefit from damping systems, helping improve overall structural performance and structural integrity.
