The Story of the Gnomes

Not gnelfs, not gnoblins, but one of the oldest and most concentrated races on Gielinor, Gnomes have seen their empire crumble and fall to rise up again, seeing wonders of culture and technology slip away from their grasp to be replaced with gnome ball and the gnome restaurant. What exactly are their origins, and what are they up to now?
