The Sundarbans is the largest single block of tidal, halophytic mangrove forests in the world.UNESCO World Heritage Site is located at the Southeastern tip of the 24 Paraganas district about 110 km from Kolkata.

Sundarban also boasts od many unique and endangered species of fauna which are not less important than the tiger. and there are the rivers, the mystifying pneumatophores of the gothic mangroves, and the unique folklore of the charismatic islands. the forest is about 10,000 sq km across India and Bangladesh, of which 40% lies in India, and is home to many rare and globally threatened wildlife species such as the estuarine crocodile, royal Bengal tiger, Water monitor lizard.
