London curry houses Baluchi and Chilli Tuk Tuk picked up two of the most prestigious prizes in the 14th edition of the British Curry Awards last night, November 26, as Nigel Farage was booed while presenting an award. Speaking to the crowd, Mr Farage said: "Thank you for sponsoring my salary for all these years, very kind of you," prompting jeers from the audience.

Once described by David Cameron as the “Oscars” of the curry world, the British Curry Awards is an annual celebration of curry houses across the country, with the UK public invited to nominate their favourite regional restaurants.Other famous faces in attendance at the evening’s awards include comedian Russell Brand, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling and TV presenter Hardeep Kohli.Chilli Tuk Tuk came out on top as the best curry takeaway in the country, while Baluchi on Tooley Street beat Michelin-starred favourites Gymkhana and Benares to be named London's best London curry restaurant.
Last year's London winners included MP's favourite, Cinnamon Club, which claimed the Central London & City award, and Shampan Bromley, which claimed the London Outer & Suburbs accolade. This year's Best Newcomer award went to Dishoom for its opening in Edinburgh"I honestly think [the curry] is one of the biggest phenomena of British gastronomy in the last, definitely, ten years,” said Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal, at last year’s awards.
“Something’s happened this decade and it’s shifted from people thinking that British curry is a poor imitation of Indian and it’s not authentic. Now, British curry is authentic because it’s British curry not Indian curry .
