In the Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid dispute, the Supreme Court has stayed the lower court's survey order and directed not to take any action in the matter till further orders. The court said that the lower court will not take any action until the mosque committee's petition is listed in the Allahabad High Court. Apart from this, the Advocate Commissioner's survey report has been ordered to be kept in a sealed envelope and not to make it public.

The Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, directed the district administration to maintain peace and law and order in the area. This case is becoming another example of the growing tension related to temple-mosque disputes in the country and the political use of the legal process.
