In today's episode, we take on the Middle Sam Merrill trail, kicking off from the Mt Lowe Fire Road at the intersection to Inspiration Point. This trail is not for the faint-hearted—it's narrow, exposed, and downright challenging. Starting on the shaded side of the mountain, the path winds around to the sunny side, where the terrain becomes progressively looser and drier. Brace yourself for an advanced ride, complete with exposure, rock drops, and more.

A heads-up for riders: Middle Sam Merrill is a multi-use trail, often shared with hikers making their way up from the Echo Mtn ruins below. We highly recommend using bells to alert fellow trail users. Due to the trail's reputation for causing flats, come prepared with extra tubes and a pump. And, of course, check those brakes before tackling this demanding route—they're going to get a workout.
