LandSpace’s Zhuque-3 achieved a successful orbital flight on its debut mission, proving the capability of China’s first stainless-steel, methane-powered reusable rocket.
The second stage reached orbit exactly as planned, marking a major milestone for China’s commercial space sector.

But the landing attempt told a different story.
After separation, the first-stage booster executed its re-entry burn and aligned for a powered landing nearly 400 km from the launch site.

Guidance, grid fins, and descent systems all worked as intended, bringing the booster close to a historic touchdown.

In the final seconds, a landing burn anomaly caused the booster to lose control and explode near the landing pad ending the recovery attempt in a fireball.

Despite the dramatic failure, the mission delivered critical data and showed that LandSpace is getting closer to achieving full rocket reusability.
