Vanuatu, a remote island country located in the South Pacific Ocean, is home to Vietnamese people who arrived hundreds of years ago to form one of the first overseas Vietnamese communities. Because it's located so far away, the Vietnamese community in Vanuatu only received the news about Independence Day on 2 September 1945 after many months. However, they were still overwhelmed with pride and happiness when they found out that the country had become independent. More than 70 years later, their emotions are still the same when they tell the younger generations about their stories and memories.
