Save the Sound's Soundkeeper Team is working with Save Environmental & the Cornell Cooperative Extension to restore eelgrass populations throughout the Long Island Sound. Eelgrass is the dominant sea grass species in the LIS. Unfortunately, eelgrass populations have declined dramatically over the past 75 years. Eelgrass provides countless ecosystem services, such as providing food for migratory water fowl and sea turtles. This second phase of our eelgrass restoration project covers seed cleaning & gluing onto hatchery clams.
