Talking Classics was a partwork that first appeared in the UK in 1994. Each issue consisted of a magazine and a cover-mounted double-CD audiobook. Each issue provided information and commentary about the work in question. At one time I had the complete collection, but thinned them out many years ago. I kept all of the horror-related titles, however.

On the downside, every book released by Talking Classics was abridged to fit into the 2.5 hour slot afforded by two compact discs. Some books fared considerably worse than others when reduced in this way, though, and many of them remain very compelling and enjoyable audio books...

MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure:    / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn

If you're interested to know more about the century-long history of ghost and horror stories broadcast at Christmas on British television and radio, you might like to check out HOLLY WRAITHS (and its companion volume HOLLY TERRORS), an A-Z guide available in paperback and ebook from Amazon and Lulu.com.
