A few days hiking in the national parks around Malaga, it really is a perfect winter destination. There are many amazing destinations to choose from. My top recommendations for hikers are:
1) Caminito Del Rey - even though it is more of a tourist destination than a real hike, it is still an amazing 7k route (see separate video)
2) Pico Torrecilla - this amazing hike in the middle of the Sierra de la Nieves national park is one of the best hikes I have done and for sure the top highlight of more expert walkers (see separate video)
3) El Saltillo- this great hike above Canillas de Aceituno is both a wonderful trail along the irrigation channels, but comes to an amazing gorge and the 3rd longest hanging bridge in Spain, a real hidden gem!
4) Torcal de Antequera - a great hike up from the lower carpark up to the main Mirador is simply worth it for the incredible karst scenery and the amazing views across much of the region, another hidden gem!
5) Cerro Gordo - wonderful small hikes along the coastline to look at the beautiful views, coves and Torres.
6) Rio Chillar & Frigiliana - the hike up out of Frigiliana is a wonderful short one up the hill to the old site of the Castello. The Rio Chilar walk below was dried up when visiting but looks wonderful.
7) Archidona - not on any list, but I found the walk up to the sanctuary above the town afforded some of the most beautiful views north over the lower plains of Andalusia, and gives such a contrast to the rest of the Malaga mountains, I did this as a via ferrata also (see separate video).

I didn't have time to climb La Maroma, but this will be top of my wish list for next time to this part of Spain, as it looks a wonderful peak that dominates the whole of the landscape east of Malaga.

A few other tips - hiking signposting is not the best, so best load up the routes on a GPS device to be sure you are on the right trail. Water sources are pretty much zero, so take plenty with you on all hikes. Even though it is winter, the sun is still strong, so suncream needed!
