Located in the village of Coolderry, Ireland, Leap Castle is the most haunted castle in the country. The castle was built between the 13th and late 15th centuries by the O’Bannon clan after a legendary dispute between two brothers who jumped off a rocky outcrop. Later, the O’Carroll clan took over and their violent rule led to many tragic deaths, including the murder of a priest by his own brother during Mass. The priest's ghost is said to haunt the chapel today known as the ‘Bloody Chapel.’ The O’Carrolls also allegedly poisoned over 40 men and captured and tortured a young woman who became known as the Red Lady Ghost. During a renovation in the 1900s, workers discovered a trap door leading to a shaft with human skeletons impaled on spikes. The castle is rumored to be filled with numerous ghostly apparitions and paranormal activity.
