Hello everyone. Benjamin Graham, the father of value investing and his apprentice Warren Buffett have propagated the idea of value investing, that is buying companies trading at a market price which is lower than their true fundamental value. However, what if I tell you there is a class of companies that always trade at a discount? I am talking about holding companies. Business Houses like Tatas, Birlas, Reliance, Godrej, etc form holding companies to hold their businesses. Some famous holding companies are Berkshire Hathaway, Godrej Industries Ltd., Bajaj Holdings and Investments Ltd, Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd, Reliance Industries Ltd., IDFC Ltd, etc. In this video, I explain the concept of holding company discount and why exactly is the value of holding companies less than the sum of its parts.
