Hindus Fight to Save Chandranath Temple from Islamists | Bangladesh

The sacred Chandranath Temple, a revered Shaktipeeth in Sitakunda, Bangladesh, is under attack from Islamist groups. A well-coordinated effort is underway to encroach upon Chandranath Hill and desecrate this ancient Hindu pilgrimage site.

In December 2023, an Islamist organized a "Beef Barbecue Party" at the temple premises, sparking outrage. Local Muslims have threatened to defile the Hindu deities and assault devotees. Videos show Islamists giving the Azaan (call to prayer) and making claims to build a mosque on Chandranath Hill.

Despite protests from Hindus, the Sheikh Hasina government has remained inactive. Attacks on Hindus, trespassing by burqa-clad women, and attempts to place the Quran inside the temple have continued. Radical groups like Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam are accused of fueling this agenda.

Hindus demand justice and the preservation of their sacred Chandranath Temple. They fear the Islamists' false narrative and aggression will soon lead to a takeover of this 8th-century Shakti Peeth.
