Midday Meal Price Up ₹1 // Rathnayake Shines for SL 236

The Odisha School and Mass Education Minister announced on Wednesday that the price of the midday meal would be increased by Re. 1. This adjustment, which raises the midday meal assistance by Re. 1 per meal, is in response to the rising costs of essential commodities. Minister Nityananda Gond further clarified that the decision to hike the price by Re. 1 per meal was made due to the increased cost of essentials. The government has committed to implementing this change promptly. Currently, the government allocates Rs 5.42 per meal for primary school students and Rs 8.10 per meal for high school students. However, with these amounts, providing quality meals has been challenging, leading to complaints that headmasters were often covering the shortfall from their own pockets.
