Athletes, and baseball players in this example, have superior visual abilities as compared to everyone else. Being able to see the baseball is not enough, instead they must be able to process the visual information efficiently, making a decision and coordinating a motor action. Older tests of seeing are not relevant to most needs in sports or in general and a newer test that takes into account a target size, its contrast and provides only quick views is more appropriate. Examples of interventions based on these abilities is presented, highlighting the resulting on-field success.
