A dedicated runner from Northeast Ohio has found new training partners—and they’re not who you might expect.

Joey Cohen has been racing for years, taking on everything from short runs to ultramarathons. But these days, his passion for the trails has expanded beyond his own training.

“I love being out on the trails, moving my body. It just feels like such a natural thing for me,” Cohen said.

Now, he’s sharing that passion with dogs through his new business, Adventure Dogs CLE—a running and hiking service created for pups with extra energy to burn.

“And as natural as it is for me, it's even more natural for dogs. They just love moving their bodies, being out in nature, and a lot of dogs have a lot of energy and as much as they love a walk, they love running even more. So that's where I come in,” he explained.

Cohen offers 30- or 60-minute outings tailored to each dog’s fitness level. Hiking is another option, especially for dogs who enjoy exploring but may not be up for running. Most of his adventures take place in Cleveland’s Metroparks or at scenic spots like Shaker Lakes.

“A dog owner will send me a picture of their dog later in that day, just happily lying down on a pillow and being calm and perhaps a little better behaved than they'd otherwise be,” Cohen said.

For Cohen, these trail miles aren’t just workouts anymore—they’re meaningful connections with “man’s best friend.”

“Not every dog owner can take a dog out for a 6 mile run, but I can and I love to do it, so I'd be happy to help,” he said. The visit is to ensure he understands your dog's needs, energy level and routine.

Cohen brings treats, water, and waste bags on every run to keep his companions safe and happy. And his passion for racing hasn’t slowed down—he still takes part in competitive runs. Later this month, he and Olive, one of his four-legged clients, will hit the starting line together at a dog-friendly 5K.
