July 1944, Soviet-Finnish Winter War: Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä was shot in the FACE by an explosive bullet. Half his jaw was blown off. He collapsed in a pile of dead bodies in no man's land.

For FIVE DAYS, he lay perfectly still among decomposing corpses while enemy soldiers searched for survivors - executing anyone still alive. He held his breath when they came close. Rats crawled on him. Snow covered him. He ate snow to survive.

On day 5, Finnish troops counterattacked and found him barely alive, frozen to the bodies around him.

Simo recovered and lived to 96. Before being shot, he had killed over 500 enemy soldiers - making him the deadliest sniper in history.
