Wild Boar Hunting: Rifle and Scope Selection & Set-Up

In preparation for their epic adventure, Ian Harford and Steve Wild will take you through their rifle and scope preparations for wild boar hunting in Hungary.

It’s a beautiful January day as Ian Harford and Steve Wild are at the range getting ready for their upcoming wild boar hunt in Hungary. The environment that waits is different to what they have recently experienced in Alaska (Click here to re-watch this series:    • Hunting in Alaska  ) Ian and Steve need to prepare their equipment for the conditions and challenges they’ll face in the Hungarian wilderness.

Wild boar hunting is very ballistic and fast moving, Ian and Steve are going to need a slightly different set-up for this outing. The three rifles they are setting up are the R8 Professional Success in 300 Win mag with a Hawke Frontier 1-6 x 24, Howa 1500 in 308 with a GRS Berserk stock and Hawke Reflex Sight. Finally, the Sauer 404 in 338 Win mag topped with the Hawke Endurance 1-4 x 24. All the rifles are long mag, lightweight and manoeuvrable, ideal for hunting wild boar.

After spending some quality time getting to know each rifle and the set-up personally, Ian and Steve are almost ready for the road. But, before they start packing up the truck, they need to practice shooting fast paced targets.
