Brooklyn rapper/producer brokeMC and NC-based DJ/Producer DJ HALO have teamed up
to hijack the airwaves. In an age where nothing is sacred, what better avenue to take than
irreverent attacks on the institutions and conventions which hold us hostage? DJ HALO’s
dense and churning production is matched by brokeMC’s equally dense and acerbic
diatribes against the zeitgeist, poltergeists, and gesundheits. To celebrate the fine line
between genius and madness, philanthropy and psychopathy, the tracks have been titled
after some of our era’s most notorious overachievers.

So the song--while overtly is an incantation condemning the horrors carried out by the fucked up corrupt American Capitalist System--is also about the push and pull an artist faces when confronted with the expectations of the scene, their fans, their own hopes and expectations. Do we sacrifice our ideals and art to bend to the perceived whims of what's trending? ("the heart is getting weaker, the art is getting cheaper.") Or do we lean into working towards self awareness, confront our demons and vulnerabilities and turn them into our strengths?

In the video DJ Halo and I play two sides of a personality at odds with itself. We may walk in the same shoes, but our endgames are completely divergent--the guitar or the gun, the bomb or the boombox.the hunter or the hunted? In the end, the strong survive, the ones who stick to their guns (or guitars for that matter) end up the victor. The video is a meditation on the darkness and conflict that resides within art/artists as well as all of humanity.
