DRIVING SHAFER TRAIL TO POTASH ROAD TO MOAB UTAH FROM CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK | SHAFER CANYON

Описание к видео DRIVING SHAFER TRAIL TO POTASH ROAD TO MOAB UTAH FROM CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK | SHAFER CANYON

The Shafter Trail starts at the Island in The Sky District of Canyonlands National Park in Utah. We first stopped at the Shafer Canyon Overlook for some magnificent views of the canyon and the road we were about to descend. We then headed out on the trail and crept down the Shafer Trail switchbacks into the canyon below. The Shafer Trail switchbacks drop fourteen hundred feet down a mesa to the bottom of the canyon.

Once on the canyon floor, we turned left onto Potash Road and followed that to the Gooseneck Overlook. Below us was the winding Colorado River that carved these immense canyons and above us was Dead Horse Point State Park. We continued traveling on Potash Road through the Shafer Basin, driving past the potash ponds and back onto Utah-279. On Utah-279 we stopped to look at some amazing petroglyphs on the side of the road, before heading back to Moab.

We did this trail with our 2022 Ford Ranger Sport 4X4 with stock tires without any issues. We would recommend a high clearance vehicle for this trail and either 4WD or AWD. Allow 2-4 hours along this trail, depending on how many stops you make. Happy Trails!
