(4 May 2012) LEGENDARY FILM ACTRESS BRIGITTE LIN MAKES A RARE APPEARANCE AT CARTIER EVENT
Legendary film actress Brigitte Lin made a rare appearance at a gala dinner, hosted by Cartier, in Hong Kong on Friday, (May 4).
Wearing a black cocktail dress, the 58-year-old Taiwanese actress walked down the stairs, escorted by a bellboy, before posing for photos on the red carpet.
Lin debuted in a Taiwanese film in the 70s, and became hugely popular in the 80s in both Taiwan and Hong Kong.
She has appeared in over 90 films.
Her most memorable roles included "Asia the Invincible (Dong Fang Bu Bai)" in director Tsui Harks's "Swordsman II," and the woman in the blond wig in director Wong Kar Wai's "Chungking Express." Lin was back in the spotlight last year after penning her much-anticipated memoir, "Window In The Window."
Lin rarely makes appearances at public events, but said that one of the reasons she decided to attend the gala dinner is because Cartier has donated generously to two of her favorite charities.
Even though Lin has not declared herself retired, she has not acted in films since 1994. She said that right now she enjoys watching films, rather than being in them.
Mother's Day is just around the corner; Lin said that she's looking forward to spending some quality time with her daughters at home.
Lin is married to Hong Kong businessman, Michael Ying. Ying has a daughter from a previous marriage and together they have two daughters. At the event on the 4th, Lin was joined by her stepdaughter, Claudine Ying, for the photo call.
When asked about the most memorable gifts given to her by her children, surprisingly it was not jewelry, but a cake. Lin said, "On the cake was the cover of my book, 'Window in The Window.' It was a surprise."
Others who attended the event included Taiwanese director/actress Sylvia Chang, Hong Kong socialite Cathy Lee and model Kathy Chow.
Chang has been busy writing a script, not for her next film, but for director Johnnie Too. She said, "Director Johnnie To wants to make this film this year, so I have to hurry up and finish the script this year."
At the gala dinner, Cartier presented over 300 new jewelry pieces, valued at more than $2 million Hong Kong dollars, in an elaborate garden setting. Some of Cartier's VIPs and Hong Kong celebrities were in attendance.
