This video provides an illustration of how reinforcement bars for a solid cantilever slab are laid. It is important to note that for a cantilever slab the top part is under tension while the bottom part is under compression. Normally, the bottom part of one way or two way slab is under tension while the top part is under compression. In essence, concrete performs well in compression and poorly in tension and this explains why more reinforcement is usually provided in tension zones and less or none in compression zones.
