A new agreement between Idaho State Police (ISP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has caused anxiety and fear among immigrant communities across the state.

Idaho's Governor Brad Little announced a new program launching in the coming weeks that will focus exclusively on undocumented immigrants who have criminal records. The State Board of Examiners has authorized funding of up to $300,000 for this initiative over the next 12 months, allowing it to move forward.

However, members of the community worry the partnership will lead to racial profiling, misunderstandings, and a growing divide between law enforcement and the people they serve.

“It makes me very worried for my community,” said Libby Luevanos, an Idaho community member. “It’s going to affect the trust the community has in the police department.”
