Jayant, Amjad Khan’s father, started his film career with Bambai Ki Sethani in 1935. His first film as a leading man was Bombay Mail. In a 43-year career, filled out with some 150 films, he played a wide variety of roles. If he was good as a comedian (in early films like “Doli”, “Dawat”, “Poonji”), he was unmatched as a villain (“Mala”, “Amar”, “Son of India” and “Sunghursh”). And he excelled as a Good Samaritan (“Mem Didi”, “Do Raste”). Way back in 1964 the veteran actor said in an interview “It has all been an exciting journey, not always pleasant, but always demanding perseverance, guts and self-confidence”.
Jayant, died of cancer in Bombay on June 2nd, 1975 at the age of 59.

Jayant was born on October 15, 1915 in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India as Zakaria Khan. He was an actor, known for State Express (1938), Sardar-e-Awwal (1939) and Insaniyat (1955). He died on June 2, 1975 in India.

The name Jayant was given to him by film director and producer Late Vijay Bhatt. He acted in many Indian films under his professional name in films Jayant until he died in 1975. His son Late Amjad Khan was also a popular film actor.
Brother Jehangir Khan was a former superintendent of police. He arrived in Mumbai with Jayant to join films. Jehangir was a assistant director in films that Jayant acted in the 1930's . He died shortly after in a road accident.
