Описание к видео Timing is Everything: When Should You Actually Accelerate Your Arm?

In today’s era of weighted balls and high-intensity strength programs, the instinct for many pitchers is to "trigger sooner" to throw harder. However, early arm acceleration often leads to decreased efficiency, lost deception, and a higher risk of injury.

In this video, we analyze the mechanics of Greg Maddux, Mariano Rivera, and Sandy Koufax to illustrate the power of Late Arm Acceleration. Read the full article here: https://www.dvsbaseball.com/articles/...

What to Look For in This Video:
As you watch these three legends, notice the "calm" in their deliveries—specifically how still Greg Maddux’s head remains throughout the pitch. You will see a consistent sequence that allows the arm to wait for the body:

Pelvis Opens: The lower half initiates the energy.
Arm Rotates Up: The arm moves into position on time, not ahead of schedule.
Upper Mass Rotates: Energy transfers through the torso.
Elbow Slots: The arm reaches its peak height over the shoulder.
Late Acceleration: Only at this final stage does the arm accelerate to the target and pull across the body.

Why Timing Matters
Late acceleration often feels like "holding back" or "not trying" to throw hard. But as I discovered in my own career—throwing 95 mph at age 35 with less effort than in my 20s—this timing is what builds trust in your delivery. It shrinks your margin of error, sharpens your command, and allows your velocity to flourish naturally through proper sequencing.

About DVS Baseball: At DVS Baseball, we bridge the gap between physics and performance. We help pitchers of all levels understand their delivery to maximize health and reach their peak potential.
