How do we listen? What and whom are we listening to? How does it feel to be listened to and how does it feel to be heard? // This performance-lecture deals with questions about listening as a sensitivity that can be activated in order to understand and develop our relation to each other and our shared world. From private listening to oneself, to interpersonal, and to a listening together that perhaps leads to our voices being activated, how might listening be understood in relation to social change?

Morten Poulsen works at the intersection between sound art, artistic research, social engagement and activism. Through sound, listening and often with participatory-based processes, he investigates socio-political structures, particularly focusing on gender, power relations and climate, and the ways in which they intersect. Mortens’ starting point is an understanding of listening as an intersubjective and transformative activity that has the potential to shape the listener. By creating and nurturing spaces and situations where listening can take place, he gives the listener the opportunity to become aware of their own role in an expanded soundscape. Morten Poulsen has toured in Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and Russia with the underwater concert AquaSonic. His artistic work is shown at the exhibition Ung Dansk Samtidskunst 2024 at Kunstbygningen in Vrå, at Kunsten Museum of Contemporary Art in Aalborg, Kunsthal Aarhus, and Skjold Contemporary, SixtyEight Art Institute and c4 Projects in Copenhagen. Morten’s research has been presented at Seismograf (DK) and PARSE Biennal for Artistic Research in Gothenburg (SE). Morten Poulsen is educated at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (2021) and the International Center for Knowledge in the Arts (2022) in Copenhagen. – www.morten-poulsen.dk
