What is Values-based Education?
Values are the qualities needed to succeed in school and society at large. Values include ambition, patience, kindness, respect, unity, creativity, enthusiasm and determination.

Why teach values with body beats?
Hi I’m Ollie Heath. I am a presenter of a DVD called ‘Tribal Groove’, teaching values through body percussion. I’ve been using body percussion as a means of teaching values for 20 years because it is musical and multi sensory, which means it’s perfect for long term memory.
As the children say the affirmation and practice the syllable based beats, my aim is that they will drum up the value into their subconscious. Many of the beats are challenging too, which means the student must put the value into practice to achieve it.

I am passionate about a Values-based Education as it creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement and develops students’ social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives.
The positive learning environment is achieved through the positive values modelled by staff throughout the school. It quickly liberates teachers and students from the stress of confrontational relationships, which frees up substantial teaching and learning time.
