I always test strings with the instruments unplugged to get an idea of the acoustic balance of the strings. Then I rewind improved versions of the strings and test them. I will tape some "plugged in" performance videos in the future. There is still much work to be done on this instrument's string set. I am often asked why I need a 12-strings (single course) bass/guitar with an 8 octave range. I can't access piano music where it sounds and where it is written without an 8 octave range. I play "arranger piano", not a real pianist, so these instruments allow me to enjoy piano sheet music utilizing the "chops" that I already have. I've been asked about what it is I am playing so here is additional information: I am playing the last few bars of Scott Joplin's "The Maple Leaf Rag". Why is this significant? I am playing the notes written on the Piano sheet music exactly where they are written and sound for/on the piano. A) It takes a guitar with the range of a piano B) This means a new string had to be developed, the open A440HZ string for the 29" scale length, and C) A new type of playing technique to be able to finger the notes written on the sheet music.
