Belgian farmers drove tractors through the European district of Brussels to oppose extra agricultural imports from South America that could arise from a trade deal between the European Union and Mercosur. The farmers made the move in front of the European Commission and European Council buildings, as agriculture ministers from the 28-member bloc met to discuss the future of Europe's agricultural policy. Agriculture proves to be a stumbling block in negotiations between the EU and the Mercosur bloc of South American countries over a wide-ranging trade agreement, with friction in particular over how much access the EU should give to South American beef.
