Bert Kaempfert and His Orchestra - Smile

When Bert Kaempfert recorded his album "Smile" - of which we are presenting it's title track here - back in 1979, he found himself to be on a "rollercoaster of success". Indeed, after the numerous succesful own compositions which had conquered the world, and after all the Awards and Prizes received for those compositions, Bert now had discovered the pleasure of performing "live" for his audience. It started with the 1974 Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London (which meanwhile has been made available on YT by my good friend 'fdeckers2003' - thanks Frank!) and from there on one concert tour followed the other. Germany, Switzerland, The UK......Bert Kaempfert could now be seen "on stage" ! So, in 1979, Bert was making plans for new albums and .... new concerts. Hélas, his magnificent career came to an abrupt end in 1980 when Bert suffered a stroke on Mallorca and passed away aged 56 only. The world of music had lost one if its icons.
So "Smile" was Bert's final album, and, if you think about it, the album title couldn't have been more 'appropriate'. Because that had always been Bert's intention : to please people with his music and to make them smile ....
It has been more than 30 years now since Bert's untimely death but his music is more alive than ever before. New fans are discovering the "Kaempfert sound" these days and numerous are the artists and performers that are still being inspired by Bert's work today.
