There are many conflicting opinions on tube vs. solid state vs. digital amplifiers. Many people don't realize just how much of a difference the cabinet/speaker/mic combination makes with guitar sounds.
Here's a comparison of 4 different amp technologies, a tube amp, a solid-state amp, a digital modeler, and a digital profiler. They are all set up with a similar tone, with the same riff and lead clip reamped through each. The cabinet simulation is turned off in the Kemper and Helix, and all the tones are running through the same cabinet IR (MIKKO). The amps are (in no particular order):
An all-tube Peavey 6505 head (USA model)
A solid state Blue-line Peavey Bandit 112 (from 1991, also USA built)
A Kemper Profiling Amplifier (with a profile of my 6505 head)
A Line 6 Helix Rack (using the “Panama” 5150 amp model)

Feel free to comment and say what you think each one is! Perhaps I’ll reveal the answers after a bit of time, but mostly I just want people to realize that there really isn’t an appreciable difference between good analog amps and good digital amps anymore.

Guitar used is a Schecter KM7 mkII, loaded with Schecter Apocalypse pickups.
