Though it may not really be classical music, "Maple Leaf Rag" is still a significant piece in the modern piano repertoire. To be more specific, it's a cornerstone work in the then-developing genre of ragtime, serving as a potent influence of later ragtime compositions and solidifying itself with time as one of the quintessential examples to the public ear of what ragtime is supposed to sound like.
