A surprising incident happened at a Canara Bank branch in Kochi, Kerala.
The branch manager issued a strict order “No more beef inside the bank office.”
Why did the manager order this ? Let me explain.
In Kerala 70 % of the people eat beef.
Beef is usually cheaper than mutton and chicken.
For foreign tourists, Kerala’s beef dishes are a highlight.
Recently, a newly appointed bank manager from Bihar at a Canara Bank branch in Kochi.
In that Bank’s canteen they serve weekly one time beef.
The kerala staff are used to eating.
The manager saw this and ordered immediately to ban this.
Because the manager doesn't like eating beef.
This upset the employees and they called for a protest.
In protest, the bank staff decided to bought beef biryani and beef curry, and openly ate it inside the bank office.
Photos and videos of this protest went viral on social media, creating a huge debate.
Some people support the manager, saying he has the right to set rules for the office environment.
But others strongly defend the employees, saying food choice is a personal freedom.
No manager can control what staff eat.
Not only food, but also religions, beliefs, values, everything is an individual's choice.
If someone comes to the manager’s home, he can order them not to eat beef, but he cannot make such an order in public places.
This incident has sparked discussions in Kerala.
