“Empty Vessels” is a piece that explores the liberation of the human consciousness from the physical body after death. Hamor researched various religious accounts, physicists’ studies of the universe, organic patterns in nature, and philosophical worldviews of the classical elements. The work’s visceral, deliberate movement works to develop living structures with the dancers’ bodies in a way that captures a group awareness as well as their singular souls. The organized geometric angles combined with a growing chaos seeks to channel the evolution of the universe. Although the dancers are scattered into another dimension of time and space, there is a level of connectivity to the mysterious human idea of death each person faces on an individual level.
